With the availability of unmanned aerial systems (UAS) such as octocopters a new versatile platform for signal-in-space measurements is deployable. This paper describes concept and design of an octocopter and its instrumentation, being used to investigate the possible interaction of terrestrial navigation systems such as DVORs and radars with single wind turbines (WT) or wind power plants.

In this paper we discuss the results of an intercomparison for free space antenna factor measurements. Three different types of antennas covering the frequency range from 30 MHz to 26.5 GHz have been calibrated in five different laboratories using different methods and calibration sites. The results agree well within the uncertainties specified by the laboratories suggesting that different approaches and different measurement sites to obtain the free space antenna factor are well compatible.

In this paper the electromagnetic field distortion of a DVOR surveillance navigation system in presence of a wind turbine (WT) is investigated as a function of wind direction and rotor position. Therefor regularities of the distortion behavior were determined by 2040 simulations. Based on the calculated data a method is developed which allows to approximate the worst case distortion with the results of only two simplified simulations, which significantly reduces simulation effort.

This paper suggests the design of two ultra-wideband antennas for the application of transient field measurements that are characterized by frequency spectra in the range from a few MHz to several GHz. The motivation for their design is the excitation of high power transient pulses within highly resonant metallic enclosures. The presented measurement and simulation results reveal that the suggested antennas do achieve satisfactory broadband characteristics and ensure high pulse form fidelity.

Increased complexity and severity of future driver assistance systems demand extensive testing and validation. For driver assistance functions the perception of the sensors is crucial. Therefore, sensors also have to be modeled. In this contribution, a statistical data-driven sensor-model, is described. The method is widely applicable and able to adapt to complex behavior. As exemplary implementation, a model of an automotive radar system, using a high precision measurement system, is presented.

Recently, nonlinear amplifiers based on the Andronov–Hopf bifurcation have become a focus of attention in modeling of the mammalian hearing organ. We present a flexible framework implemented on a DSP to analyze various bifurcation based amplifiers to get deeper insights in their nonlinear input-output behavior. A comparison shows the Neimark–Sacker amplifier remarkably outperforms the Andronov–Hopf amplifier regarding the CPU usage.

In this contribution, the limitations of the Carleman linearization approach are presented and discussed. The Carleman linearization transforms an ordinary nonlinear differential equation into an infinite system of linear differential equations which cannot be solved in general. Therefore, the infinite dimensional system has to be approximated by a finite one. The idea of this contribution is to use a Taylor series for the approximation of the infinite system.

Further improvements on the novel method for state of charge (SOC) determination of lithium iron phosphate (LFP) cells based on the impedance spectra classification are presented.

In the present publication a GPS- based localization system for saving fawns during pasture mowing was introduced. Fawns were first found by a UAV before mowing began. They were then tagged with active RFID transponders, and an appropriate reader was installed on a mowing machine. Conventional direction-of-arrival approaches require a large antenna array, while our transponders were equipped with a small GPS module, allowing a transponder to determine its own position on request from the reader.

Continuously increasing requirements for onboard system performances lead to new topologies for the energy distribution in vehicles. One promising concept is the usage of a dual-battery system instead of the conventional lead-acid battery. The conventional performance estimation method for standalone lead-acid batteries can no longer be applied to this system. Therefore, a new algorithm for the voltage drop calculation of the dual-battery system is proposed.

The design of robust analog control for SMPS faces parameter variations of integrated and external passive components. Using digital control, parameter variations can be eliminated and the required area and test costs for the integrated circuit can be reduced at the same time.

The paper presents a statistical approach to estimate the risk of an electronic system to intentional electromagnetic interference. The keywords Smart Grid, Industry 4.0 and Internet of Thinks leads to complex system with many dependencies between each electronic system. A faultless function of that complex systems is needed, which is achieved only with a cost efficent protection. That only can achieved with a stastical estimation of the risk to find the weakest link in the chain.

In the potential-current representation, transmission-line parameters in the Transmission-Line Super Theory (TLST) do not have a direct physical meaning – they are gauge dependent. The transmission line parameters also contribute to the total radiated power of the lines. The attempt to quantize radiation locally, fails because radiation describes a long-range (integral) interaction. However, it can be stated that at stronger inhomogeneities the local contributions to radiation increase.

A numerical method is presented which is capable to compute the electromagnetic fields created by the current of a spatially extended lightning channel. The coupling of these fields into simple models of aircraft fuselages is investigated, where the electric material parameters of the fuselages correspond to those of realistic layered carbon fiber composite.

The validation of GTEM cells, which are an established alternative for an open area testside and are used for electromagnetic emission and susceptibilty tests, is performed in time domain with a specifiedl transient pulse with a double exponential shape. This paper provides a new validation method, wich is applicable for any transient pulse and presents further investigations of a GTEM cell in frequency domain.

Radiated electromagnetic fields from a PCB can be estimated when the source current distribution is known. From a measured near-field, the PCB source current can be found. Solving the given inverse problem with a system of linear equations and complex near-field data it can be very sensitive to noise. Regularization methods and an adjusted preconditioning can increase the accuracy. In this publication, an improved radiation model creation approach based on complex near-field data is presented.

The ever increasing use of PEDs (passenger or portable electronic devices) has put pressure on the aircraft industry and operators to reevaluate established restrictions in PED-use on airplanes in the last years. This paper presents a measurement campaign in an Airbus A320. Although there were many measured emissions from 150 different PED (including many attached cables; operated by 69 test passengers) detected within the cabin, no disturbance signals were detectable at the aircraft antennas.

One of the issues in Electric Vehicle (EV) is to control the electromagnetic noise, so that both High Voltage (HV) power drive system and Low Voltage (LV) systems (like communication-, infotainment-, safety systems, etc.) coexist in harmony and perform their respective functions efficiently. In this article, techniques to analyse HV cables and how to design better shielding is discussed, which may help to design better layouts for coexistence of HV and LV in EV. A near-field measurement based pre-compliance method is provided for predicting emission below 30 MHz in a CISPR-25 test set-up. The Huygens principle by defining an unclosed Huygens' surface is applied for field prediction. Near-field measurements are only conducted for several locations over a table surface and a static electric field formula is used for field distribution estimation. The difference of the predicted E-field at 1 m distance is within 4 dB compared with full-wave simulation.

Test setups required for different immunity test methods based on ISO 11452-2 (ALSE) and ISO 11452-4 (BCI) are similar. However, lack of knowledge regarding the impedance of the tested component, makes it impossible to find the equivalent current to be injected by the BCI probe and a good match cannot be achieved. In this paper, three approaches are proposed to estimate the termination impedance indirectly by using different current probe.

VHF meteor radar observations of mesosphere/lower thermosphere daily temperatures have been performed at Collm, Germany. The data have been analyzed with respect to long-period oscillations at time scales of 2 to 30 days. The results reveal that oscillations with periods of up to 6 days are more frequently observed during summer, while those with longer periods have larger amplitudes during winter. The results are comparable with analyses from radar wind measurements.

The ionospheric response to solar extreme ultraviolet variability is shown by simple proxies based on Solar Dynamics Observatory/Extreme Ultraviolet Variability Experiment solar spectra. The daily proxies are compared with global mean total electron content. At time scales of the solar rotation up to about 40 days there is a time lag between EUV and TEC variability of about one day, with a tendency to increase for longer time scales.

This paper investigates the practicability of some well known antenna array calibration algorithms and gives a deeper insight into existing obstacles. Analysis on the validity of the common used calibration model is presented. A new effect in modeling errors is revealed and simulation results substantiate this theory. The research goal was to simplify calibration procedures for antenna arrays which are used for direction-of-arrival estimation.
